Statement Shoes and Short Sleeves

So as a guy that’s keeps ears and eyes open, I always hear women talking about statement pieces whether it be jewellery, shoes, anything!

Do men have statement pieces? Is that possible?

So while trying to figure out what I would need for a night of dinner and drinks with friends. I decided I needed some new shoes. At the moment I only have Chelsea boots and ‘dress shoes’, but needed something that I thought would work a little better for a summer smart casual vibe. So I stumbled across these bad boys in Aldo.

Now I’m not normally one for loud and out there, which is exactly what these shoes (named Zurlo) screamed at me when I first saw them. But for some reason, I was hooked. As I’ve learnt over the years, if you keep the top and bottoms simple and understated, the statement piece, in this case my shoes, can really take this outfit from a 4 to a 10.

Also I’m not the biggest fan of short sleeve shirts. For someone with very broad shoulders, short sleeves can leave me looking a bit boxy! But a simple hack for fixing this is rolling the sleeves up further to create a bit more shape in the upper body. On a hot summers day linen is definitely the way forward. The material is light, airy and a great multi function item. Paired with smart shorts, linen trousers or denim, you’re definitely onto a winner.
