What would Ash do? (WWAD) | Blogmas Day 8

Hello everyone and welcome to Blogmas Day 8! Sorry for the late post. Today was a hell of a day!

So I thought this would be a good time to launch a new section to my blog called, ‘What would Ash do’ or ‘WWAD’ (catchy right)! As a Personal Trainer, people like to ask me questions regarding training and nutrition and I don’t blame them…it’s what they pay me for! But all my life I’ve been a person that people turn too when they need help or advice. Lifestyle, relationships, style. One of the reasons I started this blog was to help and guide people to become the best they can be. WWAD is a great way for me to do that. It’s a chance for me to take any burning questions and give you my honest opinion.

Now a quick disclaimer! I’m no guru on everything in life, and the answers I give are my own opinion, but in most cases I’m sure that I can point you in the right direction.

So lets give this a go.

So the first question of WWAD is…(Drum role please)

Should I work out, when I’m sick?

Now this is a question that I get asked all the time! But obviously thee are different degrees of sickness.

I’ll put it simply. It's down to you!

If you feel like you’ve been hit by a ton of bricks, your head is about to explode or feel sick from the neck downwards, it might be wise to skip the workout. But if you are sick for the neck upwards and you feel like you can handle it, then I would say why not. Sometimes a short walk or low heart rate cardio can often make you feel better and boost your immune system.

Try to avoid any heavy lifting or high intensity workouts until you’ve eased yourself back into training. If you had a cold for 2 days then give yourself 2 days to ease back in and so on.

It’s known that, people who are sedentary tend to get sick frequently, those who train an average of 3 times a week are sick less and those who train at a high intensity all time i.e. 4 times plus, tend to get sick more often.
