A More Sober Vibe

Hey people, how are we doing?

So time really does fly when you’re having fun. I recently celebrated my birthday which always (no matter how much I try to avoid it), turns into a week of partying, which leaves me both feeling tired and feeling my age. Thus, the inspiration for this post, where I’m going to try out a few low alcohol beers for you.

Now, I’d barely even registered that this was a thing, but, apparently it is. There are lots of companies out there that have created alcohol free versions of their most popular beers (some even with added health benefits). So I did a little digging and found 3 of the most popular out there and decided to give them a try.

Heres some background info:

Now, I’m no beer connoisseur, but I kind of know what I like in a beer. So here are my results, in my own ‘out of 5‘ system and ranked third to first. Categories include: Taste, Pleasurability and Overall ‘Aaah’ factor…imaginary drum roll please!!

3rd - Jupiler 0.0

Taste: 3/5

Pleasurability: 3/5

Overall ’Aaah’ Factor: 3/5

In my opinion: Slightly lemony hints, refreshing taste but tastes slightly watered down. (buy here)

2nd - Big Drop Pale Ale

Taste: 4/5

Pleasurability: 3/5

Overall ’Aaah’ Factor: 3.5/5

In my opinion: I do like a Pale Ale. Very hoppy. Can definitely taste the citrus which makes it very refreshing. Maybe should’ve tried there lager instead…lesson learned for next time. (buy here)

1st - Erdinger Alkoholfrei

Taste: 5/5

Pleasurability: 4/5

Overall ’Aaah’ Factor: 4.5/5

In my opinion: Closest taste to a normal beer that I tried. Very light and doesn’t have the water down feeling. Very refreshing. (buy here)

Thank you guys so much for giving this a read. As a disclaimer this is a all my own opinion and any other information is through research that I’ve found online. If you have any questions or have tried these or other low alcohol beers, before please comment below and let me know. Also if you’d like to try any of the beers yourself, click on the ‘buy here’ links (FYI I don’t get anything for it, just trying to help you guys and gals out :-)).

Until next time you crazy kids,

Ash Recommends: BIRD

With the Summer now officially over (although, September can be ok sometimes), I feel the need to turn our focus from Summer sun, to Autumn eats. So on the bank holiday just gone, I went out with Helen and our friend Sarah and headed to Camden Town, to enjoy the last of the sunshine. I took my camera because I've gotten out of the habit of not carrying it around with me (See my confidence post here). If i'm truly honest I wasn't that inspired by the surroundings that day, but, what I did photograph, was our trip to Bird, a fried chicken shop on Chalk Farm Road.

Don't worry, up until about a week before, I hadn't heard of it either, but my oh my, is this place amazing! Forget your run of the mill chicken shops after a night on the town, this place is different. Serving free range fried chicken, with batter that melts in your mouth and has an amazing crunch to it.

I decided to go for the Waffle Burger and it was officially, the best burger I've ever had. Now, I'm kind of bias because I'm a big fan of chicken and waffles. It's genuinely the first thing that I'd go for as a 'cheat meal' - thats code for a meal where calories don't matter or containing 'YOLO MACROS', which I've seemed to be following a lot recently, hence the drastic weight gain over the last however many months. But this place...was fully worth it. Great service. Friendly and accommodating staff, who obviously have a love for the place. Delicious food. What more can you ask for...how about donuts and cocktails?! They have those too. I've not tried them, but it's the perfect excuse to go back!

Name: Bird

Location: Camden, Chalk Farm Road

Price Range: Waffle burger £14, fries with gravy £5

What do you think? Where is your favourite chicken and waffle place?

Until next time, live & enjoy life.
